Holmes Place Health Clubs are among the leading providers of holistic health and fitness facilities in Europe. Of course, fitness is just one aspect of health and wellness. Relaxation, rediscovering inner strength and escaping the stresses of everyday life, also contributes greatly to general health and well-being. This is the philosophy behind the world’s first Holmes Place Spa, which opened in the heart of Zurich.
The new 550 m² spa allows club members to relax, unwind and renew their energies following intense physical activity.
The Schletterer design team has created a concept which is true to the Holmes Place philosophy, using clean lines and design language with international appeal. Of course, every spa and wellness facility should also have its own unique touches. The spa in Zurich also includes design features inspired by its location. Schletterer has integrated stylistic elements which reflect the natural surroundings in Switzerland and also remain faithful to the overall design direction. Colours, materials and photographs are used which echo the chosen themes - high mountain ranges, rock faces, snow, ice, water, Alpine meadows, flowers and forests - all feature prominently in the Holmes Place Spa.
Short build time with no margin for error
The challenge was to realise the spa within an existing building – on the fifth floor of a shopping centre in downtown Zurich – without disturbing the ongoing operation of the fitness club. Due to the lack of available parking and storage space throughout the building, supplies were delivered on a just in time basis, with precise schedules to match progress of the project works. In addition, it was necessary to build a brand new machinery and electronics room for the spa.
Scale and complexity of the spa and wellness area
A multi-functional thermal landscape has been created. In the sauna, steam bath and herbal bath, guests can enjoy beneficial, soothing heat in stylish surroundings with modern Alpine design. To cool off afterwards, a choice of refreshing options is available, ranging from an ice fountain to sensory and mist spray shower areas and soothing foot baths. The whirlpool and adjacent quiet zone offer a truly revitalizing experience.
The thermal zones are complemented by extensive quiet areas. These are particularly important within a spa. The body needs sufficient rest periods between sessions in the sauna, treatments, etc. Spa guests at Holmes Place can relax in the central lounge, or in a more open, bright and calm relaxation area with loungers. Other relaxation areas feature water beds and integrated lighting effects, or guests can completely switch off in the aqua meditation room. A wide range of refreshments is available at the vitamin, water and tea bar.
Furthermore, guests can also enjoy an exclusive, relaxing visit with private time for two. The new spa suite, with infinity pool, massage lounger, shower and a rest and relaxation area allows guests to relax in private, and switch off from everyday life. Additional massage rooms are also available.
